Vice-Admiral SIR John Augustine Edgell, K.B.E., C.B., R.N. (Retired) (20 December, 1880 – 14 November, 1962) served in the Royal Navy.

There are ship command appointments for this officer which are illegible in his digitised Service Record.

Edgell was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 31 March, 1903.^[1]

Edgell was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant-Commander on 31 March, 1911.

He was appointed in command of Mutine on 20 January 1912.^[2]

Edgell was promoted to the rank of Commander on 31 December, 1915.

Edgell was promoted to the rank of Captain on 30 June, 1923.

He served as Hydrographer of the Navy from 1932 till his retirement from the appointment in 1945.^[3]

Edgell was promoted to the rank of Rear-Admiral on 3 March, 1935.

Edgell was promoted to the rank of Vice-Admiral on 29 November, 1938 and placed on the Retired List the following day.
