U.S.S. Peary was one of one hundred and fifty-six Clemson Class destroyers completed for the U.S. Navy.
Service
Peary was laid down by William Cramp & Sons of Philadelphia on 9 September, 1919. She was launched on 6 April 1920, sponsored by Admiral Peary's daughter, Mrs. Edward Stafford. The new destroyer was commissioned on 22 October, 1920.
