H.M.S. Sheffield was one of five Southampton Class light cruisers completed for the Royal Navy.

Service

Served in the Eighteenth Cruiser Squadron from early in World War II. In May 1941, she participated in the pursuit and destruction of the battleship Bismarck, narrowly dodging a determined friendly-fire torpedo attack by Fairey Swordfish flying from H.M.S. Ark Royal.
