Commander (retired) Eric Ridsdale Reed, (4 May, 1893 – ) served in the Royal Navy.

Life & Career

Reed was officer of the watch when Spitfire grounded on 6 July, 1915. The Admiralty determined that he had displayed a "great want of appreciation" of his duties on the occasion.[1]

Reed was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 15 October, 1915.[2]

On 5 June, 1916 he was appointed to Dolphin for instruction in submarines. On 24 July, he moved to Bonaventure for either more instruction or for service in submarines. On 11 October 1916 he was appointed to E 35, serving in her until 3 April, 1918. Following a periscope course, he was appointed to F 1 on 27 June before being placed in command of V 2 on 7 August, 1918.[3]

Reed was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant-Commander on 15 October, 1923.[4]

Reed was placed on the Retired List on account of age at the rank of Commander on 3 May, 1938.[5]

World War II

In 1939 served as Assistant Inspector of Naval Ordnance (Supplementary).

Reverted to the Retired List on 28 May, 1946.[6]
