Captain Herbert Noel Stewart (9 April, 1881 – 13 July, 1954) served in the Royal Navy.

Life & Career

The son of Reverend H. H. Stewart was born in Brington[?] Rectory.[1]

Stewart was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 15 February, 1902.[2]

Stewart was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant-Commander on 15 February, 1910.[3]

In 1912, he was cautioned to be more careful after delivering an inaccurately compiled gunnery exercise report.[4]

On 21 May 1912 he was admitted to Chatham Hospital to be treated for neurasthenia. On 9 November he was re-admitted, this time to be treated for syphilis.[5]

Stewart was appointed to Cæsar as gunnery officer in August, 1913. He held this role until 11 December, 1918, being in temporary command for two months near the end. Shortly thereafter, he was re-appointed to the ship as executive and gunnery officer.[6]

Stewart was placed on the Retired List at his own request at the rank of Commander on 9 April, 1924.[7]

World War II

Stewart was reverted to the Retired List with the war service rank of Captain on 31 August, 1946.[8]
