Vice-Admiral (retired) Basil Charles Barrington Brooke, C.B., C.B.E. (6 April, 1895 – 20 January, 1983) served in the Royal Navy.

Life & Career

The son of V. M. Brooke, Esq., J.P., a landowner, Brooke was a special entry to the September 1913 intake term at Royal Naval College, Osborne. He was passed out on 2 August 1914, most certainly in light of the war, and was appointed to the first class protected cruiser Theseus of Cruiser Force B.[1]

Brooke was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 15 March, 1918.[2]

Brooke was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant-Commander on 15 March, 1926.[3]

Brooke was promoted to the rank of Commander on 31 December, 1931.[4]

Brooke was promoted to the rank of Captain on 30 June, 1938.[5]

World War II

Brooke was promoted to the rank of Rear-Admiral on 8 July, 1947.[6]

Brooke was placed on the Retired List at his own request on 11 October, 1949 and promoted to the rank of Vice-Admiral on 1 December, 1950.[7]
