H.M.S. Phaeton (1883)
Builder: Napier, Glasgow[1]
Laid down: 14 Jun, 1880[2]
Launched: 27 Feb, 1883[3]
Commissioned: 20 Apr, 1886[4]
Sold: 1947[5]

H.M.S. Phaeton was one of four second class protected cruisers of the Leander class completed between 1885 and 1887.

There was also a light cruiser named Phaeton that fought in the Great War.

Service

Phaeton was due to begin refitting at Esquimalt at the end of December 1901, but this was delayed by the disappearance of the sloop Condor during a cruise from Esquimalt to Honolulu. Phaeton was sent out to search for the Condor on 20 January, 1902.[6]
