Rear-Admiral Henry Richard Sawbridge, O.B.E. (11 March, 1885 – 15 January, 1956) served in the Royal Navy.

Life & Career

The son of a reverend, Sawbridge was born in Coney Weston, Suffolk and passed out of Britannia with two months' time added.[1]

Sawbridge was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 15 December, 1905.[2]

Sawbridge was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant-Commander on 15 December, 1913.[3]

Sawbridge was promoted to the rank of Commander on 31 December, 1917.[4]

Sawbridge was promoted to the rank of Captain on 30 June, 1924.[5]

Sawbridge was appointed in command of the light cruiser Comus in April, 1928.[6]

Sawbridge was subjected to a Court Martial on 27 February 1935 on a charge of having negligently or by default hazarded H.M.S. Renown. The charges were proved and he was dismissed the ship. This was later reduced to a severe reprimand.[7]

Sawbridge was promoted to the rank of Rear-Admiral on 2 January, 1936.[8]
