Edmund Rupert Drummond
Vice-Admiral THE HONOURABLE Edmund Rupert Drummond, C.B., M.V.O., R.N., Retired (8 May, 1884 – 9 September, 1965) served in the Royal Navy.
Life & Career
The son of James Drummond, Tenth Viscount Strathallan was born in Leckhampstead.
Upon passing out of Britannia on 15 September 1900, he was appointed to the battleship Hannibal of the Channel Squadron.
Drummond was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 30 June, 1906 and lent for duty under the Canadian government.[1]
Drummond was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant-Commander on 30 June, 1914. In October 1914 he was appointed to the new light cruiser Caroline, to be her first officer upon her commissioning. He served in her to some illegible date, possibly in November 1916 but possibly in mid-1917.
From May to November 1917, he was in the Trade Division. In November to December he was assigned to the new light cruiser Curlew, but in December moved to the light cruiser Cardiff, in which he served until 1 March 1919, being promoted to the rank of Commander on 30 June, 1918.
Drummond was promoted to the rank of Captain on 31 December, 1925.
Drummond was appointed in command of the light cruiser Capetown in July, 1927.
Drummond was promoted to the rank of Rear-Admiral on 19 July, 1936.
Placed on the Retired List on 25 October 1938.
Drummond was promoted to the rank of Vice-Admiral (retired) on 1 January, 1940.
