Group Captain Edward Alexander Dimsdale Masterman, C.M.G., C.B.E., A.F.C., R.N., R.A.F. (15 April, 1880 – ) served in the Royal Navy and the Royal Naval Air Service.

Life & Career

The son of a banker, Masterman gained twelve months' time on passing out of Britannia.

Masterman was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 15 January, 1900

Masterman was promoted to the rank of Commander on 31 December, 1910.

Masterman received the Certificate of Aero Club de France in 1912 and on 7 May was placed on the books of Actæon, additional, for command of the Naval Airship Section of the Royal Flying Corps.

He received a certificate as a Russian Interpreter in June 1913.

Masterman was promoted to the rank of Wing Commander on 1 July, 1914.

Masterman was sent to Barrow-in-Furness in March 1916 and promoted to the rank of Wing Captain on 30 June, 1916.

Masterman was granted the acting rank of Captain on 14 July, 1917.

Masterman was granted the permanent commission as Group Captain, R.A.F. on 1 August, 1919.
