Gerald FitzMaurice Digby

Captain THE HONOURABLE Gerald FitzMaurice Digby, R.N. (25 December, 1858 – 8 December, 1942) served in the Royal Navy.

Life & Career

In July, 1871, Digby was ranked twenty-eighth in order of merit of thirty-five candidates accepted as Naval Cadets following the entrance examinations.[1]

Digby was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 11 September, 1880.[2]

Digby was promoted to the rank of Commander on 30 June, 1893. He resigned his commission on 6 January, 1897, but in 1902 was placed on a list of men to have their commissions restored.[3]

Digby took courses sporadically from 1902 to 1910, and in 1915 declared himself fit and available for shore service.[4]

Digby was promoted to the rank of Captain (emergency) in recognition of his wartime service, dated 11 November, 1918.[5]
