Service

Dee and Don appear to have left Portsmouth for Malta upon being commissioned, where they were promptly paid off for an extended period.

In mid-1884, Dee shared an Engineer Officer with the flatiron gunboat Don, that officer being borne in Hibernia at Malta.[4]

By APril 1885, both boats were being prepared for commissioning.[5]
