Rear-Admiral Claude Congreve Dobson, D.S.O., V.C., ( – ) was an officer in the Royal Navy.
Life & Career
Dobson was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 30 March, 1906, and appointed to Monarch on 27 March, 1912.[1]
Dobson was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant-Commander on 30 March, 1914.[2]
Dobson was appointed in command of the submarine C 27 on 7 April, 1914.[3] On 20 July, 1915, C 27 sank U 23 off Fair Island.[4][5]
Dobson was promoted to the rank of Commander on 30 June, 1918.[6] He then started to work with small torpedo craft, and was awarded the Victoria Cross in recognition that on 18 August, 1919 his C.M.B. 31BD scored two torpedo hits on a Russian battleship in Kronstadt harbour.
On the strength of this success, Dobson was appointed to Osea for command of a C.M.B. flotilla on 18 December, 1919.[7]
Dobson was appointed in command of the light cruiser Colombo in October, 1927.[8]
In October, 1931, he was appointed in command of the light cruiser Cambrian.[9]
