Vice-Admiral Richard Duckworth-King, Royal Navy (16 July, 1840 – 4 January, 1900) was an officer of the Royal Navy.
Prior to around 1892, his name was Richard Duckworth King.
Life & Career
The son of Colonel Henry C. King and grandson of Admiral Sir Richard King entered the Navy in 1851, before age twelve.
He served as a Midshipman in the Surprise at the blockade of the Canton River and the bombardment and capture of the city, carrying the colours of the landing part at the assault and capture of the Peiho forts.[1]
He was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant in 1860 and to Commander in 1867, to Captain in 1877.[2]
Duckworth-King was appointed a Naval Aide-de-Camp to Queen Victoria on 13 August, 1889, vice St. John.[3]
He was appointed Captain Superintendent of Sheerness Dockyard on 1 August, 1890.[4]
Duckworth-King was promoted to the rank of Rear-Admiral in 1892.[5]
Duckworth-King was promoted to the rank of Vice-Admiral on 26 December, 1897, vice Jones.[6]
On 21 December, 1898 he was placed on the Retired List as unfit.
