Admiral SIR James Andrew Thomas Bruce, K.C.M.G., Royal Navy (15 July, 1846 – 25 May, 1921) was an officer of the Royal Navy.
Life & Career
Bruce was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant with seniority of 13 February, 1866.
Bruce was promoted to the rank of Commander with seniority of 1 October, 1874. He served as a member of the Signal Committee from February to July of 1878, and then received an appointment to Cormorant. He was invalided from her on 15 December 1881 and permitted to rest up from a shoulder injury. The injury was somehow related to a cricket incident fully three years ago.
Bruce was promoted to the rank of Captain with seniority of 29 June, 1883.
Bruce was promoted to the rank of Rear-Admiral with seniority of 31 March, 1898.
On 9 November, 1900, Bruce was appointed an Ordinary Member of the Second Class, or Knight Commander, in the Most Distinguished Order of Saint Michael and Saint George (K.C.M.G.).[1] On 29 December 1900, he was thanked for services rendered to a French gunboat.
Bruce arrived back in England aboard Barfleur on 31 December 1901.
Bruce was promoted to the rank of Vice-Admiral on 30 May, 1903, vice Dale.[2]
Bruce was promoted to the rank of Admiral on 8 February, 1907, vice Douglas.[3] In accordance with the provisions of the Order in Council of 16 July, 1895, he was placed on the Retired List on 2 January, 1909.[4]
