Vice-Admiral SIR Cecil Charles Hughes-Hallett, K.C.B., C.B.E. (6 April, 1898 – ) served in the Royal Navy.

Life & Career

Cecil was the son of a Colonel in the Indian Army who had passed away by the time he joined the navy. Consequently, he listed his mother as his guardian.

During the Great War, Hughes-Hallett served in the battleship Vengeance until 30 July 1915 and then battleship St. Vincent from 1 September, 1915. Following a course in Torpedo Control at H.M.S. Vernon, he served in the destroyer Hardy from 29 January 1917 through the endof the war, operating in support of the Grand Fleet.[1]

Hughes-Hallett was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 15 August, 1918.[2]

As the Sub-Lieutenant who achieved the highest gunnery examination for the year and who also achieved a first-class certificate in seamanship, Hughes-Hallett was awarded the Goodenough Medal for 1919.[3]

Hughes-Hallett received the Ronald Megaw Memorial Prize for 1919-20.[4]
