Vice-Admiral (retired) Edmund Gerard Noel Rushbrooke, D.S.C., C.B.E. (15 December, 1892 – ) served in the Royal Navy.
Life & Career
The son of Captain William Henry Rushbrooke, Edmund gained no time on passing out of the Training Establishment in January, 1911.
On 20 June 1914, he was appointed to the destroyer Lennox. Rushbrooke was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 15 March, 1916 and remained with the ship until March, 1917. He then spent seven months in Sharpshooter and in October 1917 moved to Ulleswater. He survived her sinking on 15 August 1918. On 24 September, he received his first command appointment, in the first-class torpedo boat T.B. 4.
Post-War
Rushbrooke was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant-Commander on 15 March, 1924.
Rushbrooke was promoted to the rank of Commander on 31 December, 1928.
Rushbrooke was promoted to the rank of Captain on 30 June, 1936.
Appointed in command of the netlayer Guardian, vice Wadham on 26 July, 1939.
World War II
On 16 August, 1940, Rushbrooke left Guardian to take up a command appointment in the aircraft carrier Argus.
Rushbrooke was promoted to the rank of Rear-Admiral on 5 July, 1945 and placed on the Retired List on 2 February, 1947.
Rushbrooke was promoted to the rank of Vice-Admiral on 22 October, 1948.
