Vice-Admiral Gerald Charles Adolphe Marescaux, C.B., C.M.G., Royal Navy, Retired (10 February, 1860 – 3 September, 1920) was an officer of the Royal Navy.

Early Life & Career

Marescaux was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 31 December, 1883.[1]

Marescaux was promoted to the rank of Commander on 31 December, 1896.[2]

On 20 March, 1902, Marescaux was appointed in command of the third class protected cruiser Pelorus.[3]

Marescaux was promoted to the rank of Captain on 31 December, 1903.[4]

On 1 April, 1910, Marescaux was appointed to the Europa, and for command of a group of special service cruisers at Devonport, vice Woollcombe.[5]

He served as captain of Implacable from June 1912 until August of the following year.[6]

Marescaux was promoted to the rank of Rear-Admiral on 15 December, 1913, vice Ommanney.[7]

He was appointed temporary Lieutenant-Colonel dated 8 November, 1914.[8] He was appointed an Additional Member of the Third Class, or Companion, in the Most Distinguished Order of Saint Michael and Saint George (C.M.G.) on 23 June, 1915,[9] and was invested with the insignia of the order by the King at Buckingham Palace on 14 October.[10] He was placed on the Retired List at his own request on 4 November.[11]

He was appointed an Additional Member of the Third Class, or Companion, of the Military Division of the Most Honourable Order of the Bath (C.B.) on 1 January, 1919.[12] He was advanced to the rank of Vice-Admiral on the Retired List on 9 January.[13]
