Captain (emergency) Basil Reginald Hamilton Taylour, born with the last name Taylor (8 April, 1865 – 3 September, 1936) served in the Royal Navy.
Life & Career
Taylor was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 30 June, 1888.[1]
Taylor resigned the service on 18 April, 1898 while in command of the "A" Class destroyer Snapper, due to "urgent private affairs."[2]
Taylor was placed on the Emergency List with the rank of Commander on 8 September, 1906. In June, 1907 he reported he was the Harbour Master at Hong Kong.[3]
Great War
On 25 November, 1914, Taylour telegraphed the Admiralty to report that he had changed his last name, describing this as a "necessary step"... which I cannot understand.[4]
Taylour was promoted to the rank of Captain on the Emergency List on 11 November, 1918 in recognition of services rendered during the war. He retired from his Colonial appointment as Harbour Master at Hong Kong on 12 February, 1921.[5]
