Captain (retired) Basil Richard Poë, R.N. (27 January, 1883 – 2 September, 1936) was an officer in the Royal Navy.
Life & Career
Poë was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 31 March, 1904.[1]
He became an interpreter in French, and apparently a very good one. His naval career would rely on his talent, and he would almost always be in a facilitating role rather than an executive one.
Poë was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant-Commander on 31 March, 1912. In the Annual Manoeuvres of 1912, he served as Beatty's Flag Lieutenant in the armoured cruiser Aboukir.[2]
Poë was promoted to the rank of Commander on 30 June, 1916.[3]
Poë was appointed in command of the destroyer Acheron on 3 August, 1918.[4]
Poë was placed on the Retired List at his own request on 27 June, 1922 and was promoted to the rank of Captain (retired) on 27 January, 1928.[5]
