Moncreiffe was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 31 August, 1905.[1]
Moncreiffe was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant-Commander on 31 August, 1913.[2]
On 20 September, 1913, he received an appointment to Bonaventure for command of submarines. This was refined to command of D 4 on 7 September, 1914. On 15 June, 1915, he sank the German ship Bielefeld in Heligoland Bight, a feat which earned him Their Lordships' "approbation in cd. of S/M D4 and in particular of his successful attack on a German auxiliary steamer." Moncreiffe was discharged from D 4 on 26 August and was appointed to Maidstone for command of E 17 the next day.[3]

On 6 February, 1919, Moncreiffe was appointed in command of the sweeping sloop Harvester, and for submarines. In July, 1919, he was appointed to command Fermoy, remaining in her until 4 October.[4]
Moncreiffe was promoted to the rank of Commander on the Retired List on 30 June, 1924.[5]
