The Portsmouth Station was one of the three Home Ports of the Royal Navy. It encompassed Portsmouth Royal Dockyard and ships not attached to other fleets. Command-in-Chief of the port command was usually vested in an Admiral.
Portsmouth served as the operational base for Auxiliary Patrol Area XII, with sub-bases at Newhaven.
