Vice-Admiral Hubert Seeds Monroe, D.S.O., Royal Navy, Retired (4 November, 1877 – 15 July, 1966) was an officer of the Royal Navy.
Life & Career
The son of the Right Honourable J. Monroe.
Monroe was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 30 June, 1900.[1]
He was appointed in command of the destroyer Dasher on 3 August, 1906.[2]
Monroe was promoted to the rank of Commander on 31 December, 1912.[3]
On 14 April, 1913, he was appointed in command of the first-class torpedo boat T.B. 113, which was part of the Nore Local Defence Flotilla.[4]

On 15 October 1918, he assumed command of the old second class protected cruiser Venus as flag captain to Rear-Admiral Gaunt.[8]
After paying off Venus, Monroe was appointed Flag Captain, East Indies on 16 June, 1919. He'd remain there only until 21 July.[9]
He was appointed in command of H.M.S. Thunderer in September, 1925.
He was appointed in command of the battleship H.M.S. Barham in December, 1927, remaining with her for just two months, at which time he assumed command of Ramillies.
Monroe was promoted to the rank of Rear-Admiral on 6 August, 1929, vice A. K. Betty.[10]
