The Plymouth Station was one of the three Home Ports of the Royal Navy. It encompassed Devonport Royal Dockyard and Pembroke Royal Dockyard and ships not attached to other fleets. Command-in-Chief of the port command was usually vested in an Admiral or a Vice-Admiral.
