Hubert Guy Dyke Acland, Fourth Baronet
Captain Hubert Guy Dyke Acland, Fourth Baronet, D.S.O., Royal Navy (8 June, 1890 – 6 May, 1978) was an officer in the Royal Navy.
Life & Career
Born the youngest son of Sir William Alison Dyke Acland, Second Baronet.
Acland was promoted to Lieutenant on 15 November, 1910.[1]
He served as Gunnery Officer in H.M.S. Illustrious and Commonwealth.
Acland was promoted to Lieutenant-Commander on 15 November, 1918.
Acland was promoted to Commander on 31 December, 1924.
Acland was promoted to Captain on 30 June, 1932. Acland commanded the Fishery Protection and Minesweeping Flotilla, 1935–36 before being lent to Royal Australian Navy, 1937–38.
He commanded the heavy cruiser H.M.A.S. Australia, 1937–38 and Albatross in 1938.
He served as Senior Officer of the Reserve Fleet, Devonport, 1939 and commanded the Chatham Gunnery School briefly at the end of 1939.
World War II
Acland commanded the cruiser H.M.S. Vindictive in 1941–42.
He was placed on the retired list, 1942 before serving on the staff of Commander-in-Chief, Rosyth in 1943 and on th staff of Flag Officer in Charge, Northern Ireland, 1943–45.
